UBER CENTRAL ATLANTIC COAST

There are two rideshare services in the Central Atlantic Coast region (i.e., Daytona Beach, Space Coast & Treasure Coast):

1. UberX (a low-cost option which seats up to four passengers. UberX is the most widespread and basic option in Uber’s portfolio of services)
2. UberXL (a low-cost ride which seats up to six passengers)

The current rates for the  Central Atlantic Coast:

UberX
Base Fare: $1.50
Per Minute: $0.15
Per Mile: $1.15
Cancellation Fee: $5
Service Fee: $1.85

UberXL
Base Fare: $2.75
Per Minute: $0.20
Per Mile: $2.00
Cancellation Fee: $5
Service Fee: $1.85

How to Become an Uber Driver in  the Central Atlantic Coast 

UberX/XL requirements:

Driver must be at least 21 years of age

  • Drivers aged 21 or 22 must have (at minimum) 3 years of valid licensing in the USA
  • Drivers aged 23 (and up) must have at least one year of valid licensing in the USA
  • Drivers must provide valid FL driver’s license
  • Drivers must pass a screening process (details below)
  • Drivers must have an accepted vehicle (check below for additional info)

UberX/XL Vehicle Requirements:

As a company, Uber doesn’t own or operate any vehicles (all Uber Vehicles are driver-owned or leased). If you want to drive for Uber, you have to use your own private vehicle.

  • Your vehicle must have 4 doors (which open independently).
  • Your vehicle must be from the year 2004 or newer
  • You must have a clean title (no salvage vehicles are allowed).
  • Your vehicle must be In excellent condition (cosmetically & mechanically).
  • Your vehicle cannot be a former taxi vehicle, or large van.

For UberXL:

  • All of the points listed above apply equally to XL
  • All XL vehicles must seat the driver AND at least 6 additional passengers

UberX/XL document requirements:

All Uber drivers must provide these documents for their Uber account to be officially activated:

  • Valid driver’s license
  •  Vehicle Registration
Vehicle Insurance Background Check/Screening Process
  • Drivers must undergo a background check, undertaken by an independent company called Checkr. You can check the status of your Checkr application here: applicant.checkr.com.
Driver’s License:
Your driver’s license should clearly show these items:
  1. License Issue Date
  2. Your license number
  3. Your Date of Birth (DOB). You must be 21 Years of Age (or older) to be an Uber Driver
  4. License Expiry Date

Vehicle Inspection:
You’ll need to have your vehicle inspected before becoming an active Uber driver (you’ll need a certified inspector who’s capable of doing a 19-point inspection).
Daytona Airport – Special Regulations:

‘Hot Spot’ Information:
Once you’ve successfully become a driver in the Central Atlantic Coast, it’s worth becoming familiar with local ‘hot spot’ areas, which are regions with very high activity and rideshare demand:

  • Cape Canaveral— There is very high cruise ship volume at Port Canaveral. See the port schedule here.
  • Cocoa Beach— Strong daytime and nighttime demand during the week and weekend nights.
  • Indian Harbour Beach— Strong demand on weekends from 4pm-1am.
  • New Haven Ave— Downtown Melbourne is a busy area, particularly on nights and weekends. Most requests from 5pm-2am from the bars on New Haven Ave.
