Uber Car Year Requirements for UberX & XL (2017) and Accepted Vehicle Models for UberX and UberXL
What are the Uber Car Year Requirements in 2017? Every year, Uber updates their list of vehicle standards and requirements. For drivers, this policy mainly affects one thing: how old your car is allowed to be.
On March 1st, 2016, Uber began transitioning away from its old X and XL policies, which often mandated that vehicles be no older than Year 2000 models.
Why does Uber keep changing the model date requirements for X and XL vehicles?
Local regulations change with time, and Uber wants to avoid violating commercial vehicle regulations in the cities where it operates. The company also wants to make sure their drivers’ vehicles aren’t too old — keeping assembly/manufacturing dates within 15 years helps avoid mechanical and safety issues.Keep in mind that the Uber Car Year Requirements for UberX & XL (2017) may differ as soon as next year.

I have a 2006 Volvo S60 can I use it as a uber vehicle in San Antonio Texas
Based solely on the above “Volvo S60 Sedan, 2014 and newer”, I’d say no.
I have a 98 Cadillac mint condition 100k miles and regular service checks. Can I use it in Fort Walton Beach fl.?
No.
Definitely, but it’s unlikely that any TNC platform would deem it acceptable. 😉 And that’s a shame.
It’d be nice if the TNCs ultimately determine a cost-effective method to accurately evaluate the road-worthiness of any given vehicle above and beyond its model year. Case in point, there are more than a few 12-15 year old vehicles that are more roadworthy than some 2-5 year old vehicles. That’s because vehicle maintenance, and thus its condition and road-worthiness, varies significantly from one owner to another.
However, it’s likely that government-mandated safety standards play a very large role in these determinations, so the above is probably moot. In other words, it’s not like anyone is retrofitting their ’66 Mustang with shoulder belts and driver and front passenger airbags!
This list is bullshit. Doesn’t list my car and I drive for both Uber and Lyft
I hope it is! I have a 2008 Hyundai Elantra SE!
It’s a ‘pre-approved’ list of cars, not an ‘exclusive’ list…
OK, so between 2001 and 2008, inclusive. This means that currently the oldest permitted vehicle in one city is 15 years old and another city is 8 years old — that’s nearly double the age difference! I find it very strange to have as much as a 7-year difference in oldest allowed vehicle age in different cities. Are there any actual *practical* reasons for this, or is this purely dictated by local city ordinances that are themselves likely arbitrary?
So, what’s the deal with the stringent “2014 and newer” requirement on all the pedestrian economy models of each make (e.g. Cruze, Civic, Sentra, Corolla)?
I drive a 2015 Ford Transit Connect XLT, LWB, Wagon that seats 6 passengers. It is not on any list anywhere, but was approved by Lyft for Lyft Plus and after an office visit to Uber, was approved for X and XL.
I’m guessing it is just a list of vehicles known to be accepted. As for ages, it depends on the demand for drivers, if they feel that they can’t get more drivers for a city with modest pay increases they will permit older cars. Uber will keep the age requirement as strict as possible to meet demand. A city like SF is going to have a lot different demand than a city like Omaha.
I own a 2014 Grand Cherokee SRT, in mint condition! Was wondering why it’s not on the lux list? It’s surely a luxury suv!
Why is Ford Expedition not on the list, but the Explorer is? The expedition can hold more people and is bigger than an explorer.
Is there a mileage maximum for an uberx car in San Francisco?
I’ve never heard of any maximum permissible mileage in any city. I suspect that it just hasn’t yet been identified as an issue by Uber. It’s likely sufficient for now, as they aggressively court additional drivers, to use vehicle age as a proxy. However, I suspect that, as the TNC industry matures and the driver pool stabilizes, mileage will be added to the criteria used to assess vehicle suitability. But, who knows, they might have mastered driverless vehicles by then and it’ll be a moot point. 😉
hi, i want to buy a kia sorento. can I use it for uber xl?
Hello. I have a 2013 VW CC Sport Plus which my BF is considering driving for NYC Uber. Are there any restrictions on this car because of the sport package? For instance it is lower to the ground and has leatherette seats and privacy glass. Would this be okay for UberX or possibly UberXL?
what is the year requirement in orlando, fl and can i use a prius?
2016 kia soul meet uber qualification
I drive for uber and thinking of getting a new car does a 2016 Honda Accord qualify for uber select?
Yes
Does the UBER XL have to be black, black leather interior? Leather interior?
No.
It’s missing Fiat
I have a 2010 Nissan Versa but it isn’t on the allowed car brands. Does that automatically disqualify me?
No, you could try anyway. I’ve had a car approved that isn’t on the list.
If you’ve not yet done so, see the reply from thomasah below since it also addresses your question.
I have a 2001 Boxster Porsche with only 30K miles. would this be acceptable?
That car isn’t a sedan or larger. You need a sedan at least. At least 4 doors and 4 passengers
I have a 2003 Honda Accord 4 door. Can I use it in Las Vegas?
What if your vehicle has a wrap? Is that considered a “marked car?”
I’d say a wrap is the very definition of a marked car
I think the rule is applied based on the message the “wrap” delivers.
Nature scenes would be okay, but “Eat at Joe’s Pizza” or “Al’s Limousine Service” would not.
Check with your local Uber office for details.
My husband’s car has just been purchased and in KY the temporary registration isn’t an obvious document. He has sent every paper that the dealer told him would work, but he just keeps receiving an automated response. help!
Visit your local Uber office for assistance or simply apply for permanant registration.
Seating five people in a sedan can be pretty cramped. Can the vehicle be a crossover, SUV, or van?
I’m looking to drive with a ride-share company for extra money in the Orlando aera and wanting to use my 2005 Chrysler town n country its an lx but the list has xl. Can someone tell me the difference? I looked on Chryslers website and didn’t see the xl.
Is a 2012 Chevy Volt ok for driving Uber in the Dallas/Fort Worth. It is a 4 door sedan with 4 seats. Will it be approved?
I own a 2016 Chevy Silverado 4 door is this acceptable in Fayetteville ar
I looked at the list, and it said Ford Taurus, is that only the sedan version or does it include the wagon version also, cause I have a 95 Taurus wagon with barely 100k on it. Would I be able to drive it?
Duh.. the wagon is still the sedan. There is no Taurus coupe.
I can see Toyota Highlander in the list, but not the Toyota 4 Runner, wondering why?
i have 2007 honda accord can i use it ?
I have a 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee in near Mint condition im in Roanoke Va would this work???Please help me
want to use this jeep for uber
Moved here Albany, NY from other state and have Toyota Camry 2011, Can I drive this Car for uber.
Is there any Uber office in Albany , NY?
Please help me out
You might be able to drive for them but you sure have a bad taste in cars.
There’s no need to disrespect that man’s vehicle
I don’t see the Kia Forte5 (hatch) on this list and yet they’re offering $1000 cashback for Uber drivers on it?? Same with the Hyundai Elantra GT (Touring went away a few years ago). Where does this list come from?
I have a 1991 Cadillac Fleetwood coupe; a very rare car of which 896 were made. It is in nice shape and I figured I’d be able to offer people rides in it at a higher rate than say someone offering a ride in a Toyota Corolla. Even if I only were requested once a month that would work out as I don’t really want to do it anyways but if someone is willing to pay for it then fine. Guess I’m wrong as it is “too old” by Uber’s rules and also not a four door. Ridiculous. Someone with a 1952 Rolls Royce that usually hires it out to weddings at $400 an hour can’t advertise their car on Uber to offer people rides in it if they wanted? Those working for Uber who think age equates junk in vehicles are obviously in the wrong business.
I have a 2014 Kia Soul, it’s not on the list?!?! It’s a mid size SUV. Is this a vehicle that can be used?
If it has 4 passenger doors, then yes.
can i use a 4 door truck ??
I know in Lexington, Ky. I have ridden in a four door Toyota Tacoma recently.
can i use a 4 door truck
what is the oldest year
and max milage??
Can’t I use a 2016 Subaru Impreza 5 door?
I am about to buy a 2012 Hyundai Genesis and according to the list it qualifies for Uber select. But I wanted to know if a car qualifies for Uber Select can you use it for Uber X?
Yes, but as I understand it, if you accept an Uber X hail, you get Uber X pay.
how is this a xl Mitsubishi Lancer Sedan, 2014
I have a Saturn Outlook which is not on the list. But a GMC Acadia is approved. They are the same car with a different name. Why?!?!
Uber has a hard time keeping up with the different car models.
In my case, it was a Ford Transit Connect but only for picture identification. The above list is more of a way to differentiate between X and XL vehicle qualification.
If you car has 4 doors and is newer than the approved age year in your city, you can use it in Uber service assuming it is in decent condition.
Uber in their infinite wisdom mis-classified the Ford Transit Connect wagon as a full size van, most likely confusing it with the Commercial Ford Transit 150 Van, sorry Uber, just because they both have the word Transit in their name, doesn’t make them the same vehicle. The Transit connect seats 6 or 7 depending on the center seating arrangement, and is the perfect XL vehicle getting up to 28 mpg. If you allow the Kia minivan, and the Dodge Caravan, and the Toyota Sienna, and the Honda minivan, all of which are larger, than why ban the Transit Connect?
I have a 2012 Honda Civic LX
Sedan
That should quality ? Correct ?
Qualify *
2004 Acura MDX Touring 4WD does that work for NEW JERSEY
I already drive for UBER……..if I add a vehicle that’s 2006 and that’s the oldest it is allowed…….can I still use it in the years to come??????
Probably not. The age of a vehicle changes just as your age changes as time passes.
Once your vehicle’s age exceeds the allowable age in your city, you will not be able to use it in Uber service.
The permissable vehicle age difference from city to city is, most likely, determined by the local government agency.
can i drive my honda element (2005) ? im super confused and im in california and i want to drive so bad …uncertainty looms.
I have a 2017 civic hatch can I use that as long if it had 4 doors I should be fine right?
2016 Buick Enclave ? For Uber XL or Uber Select in Palm Springs, Ca? its a 7 seater…
